Future CYT Stars (Ages 4-7)
 
Wiggles & Giggles (Ages 4-5)
Peanut performers will have a blast singing, dancing and moving as they explore theater appropriate to their age level. Our youngest CYTers discover movement, performance confidence, music, and dancing while building creativity and imagination through games and activities. This age group is not eligible to audition for the session production.

Our Gang 1 (Ages 6-7)
Let your imagination take flight into the world of theater through song, music and dance. The fun never stops in Our Gang and includes theater basics while learning the foundations of performing in a safe, encouraging environment. We also take time for fun with games and crafts. Let your child take the spotlight! This age group is not eligible to audition for the session production.

Our Gang 2 (Ages 6-7)
Pre-requisite: 3 Our Gang Classes
Now that you''ve mastered the basics of performing- it''s time to take the next step! Learn how to prepare an audition for the big kids show and act like a character. Advanced singing, dancing and acting will have you headed down the road to Broadway. This age group is not eligible to audition for the session production.

Musical Theater 1 for Kids (Ages 9-12)
Pre-requisite: 1 dance class, 1 drama class, 1 voice class
Let your creativity take flight through dance, drama and singing. Jump into the magical world of musical theater by exploring dance choreography, vocal technique and how to portray a character. Become a triple threat through warm-ups, group activities, theater games and performance. By the end of class, you’ll be ready to take center stage and shine as one of the show-stoppers in the showcase!

Musical Theater 2 for Kids (Ages 9-12)
Pre-requisite: 1 musical theater class, or 3 classes of dance, drama or voice
Take your singing, dancing and acting skills to the next level and be challenged while having a blast! Musical Theater II will explore a variety of popular styles in musical theater. Learn how to capture your audience when you sing a breathtaking ballad and how to keep your energy high while dancing in a big toe-tapping number. Everyone will get a chance to shine in high-energy small group numbers as well as show-stoppin’ ensemble numbers in our dynamic end-of-session showcase!

Musical Theater 1 for Teens (Ages 12-18)
This class will help strengthen you as an actor, singer, and dancer while developing the confidence you need to succeed. We''ll dive into some of your favorite musicals and tackle the numbers that you''ve just been dying to perform. You''ll learn new techniques that will sharpen your skills, help you stand out at your next audition, and give you the confidence you need to take the spotlight.

Don''t miss out on this one-of-a-kind opportunity to sharpen your skills as a versatile actor, singer, and dancer. Get insight on musical theatre through the years and the differences between specific styles of shows and then showcase those differences in a variety of musical numbers and scenes. All right, triple threats time to step out of the spotlight and jump into boot-camp! This class will challenge and stretch you in more ways than you ever thought possible in the realm of musical theatre. Get your solos and monologues in shape for auditions, your small group harmonies and dance technique ready for call backs, and your technique and approach ready for your dream role. This class is for serious performers only.

Musical Theater 10 for Teens: Musical Production (Ages 12-18)
Pre-requisite: 2 classes in dance, drama, voice or musical theater, audition only
This class is the first step to Broadway! Take your skills in dance, drama and voice and present a full length or extended musical theater production. Students will engage in a variety of opportunities from performance to production elements. If you''re bound for stardom- this class is for you! Students will learn to complete an in-depth character analysis and incorporate in their performance. Participate in physicality, voice and character trait exercises. Perform group cohesion and team building games and activities. Assist with production aspects including props, sets, publicity, directing and costumes. Perform advanced songs and choreography in an extended showcase. Perform a full length or extended musical script.
 

For Kids

Voice 1 for Kids (Ages 8-12)
Whether you sing in your church choir, along with Rock Band, or just in the shower, singing can be fun! Learn how to put those pipes to use with good technique and style. In this interactive class students will learn the fundamental concepts and training of the voice. Learn proper posture and breathing techniques, phrasing and how to stay on pitch.

Voice 2 for Kids (Ages 8-12)
Pre-requisite: 1 voice class
Take your vocal expertise to the next level and explore analyzing your character and how they would deliver a song. Whether you want to perform Bubble-gum pop, sweeping ballads or country blue grass, these techniques will strengthen your voice and performances. Incorporate acting/character skills in your songs and perform pitch-perfectly at showcase.

Learn to sing a new song, read a new rhythm with sheet music! Embark on a journey into the land of reading music and sight-singing! This class will outline the fundamentals of music by identifying and teaching note values, pitches, the difference between melody and harmony and how to read music symbols. Learn how to identify Italian music terms and to accurately read and write rhythm patterns. Through this class become a better sight-reader and more comfortable in all types of musical genres.

Tackle one of the three pillars of musical theater in this introductory voice class. Explore how to find your vocal instrument and raise your voice with skill and precision. Phrasing, breathing, diction & articulation will all help you make your voice performance ready.

Pre-requisite: 1 voice class & 1 musical theater class
Challenge yourself with this higher level of vocal instruction. You will explore developing your character through song with staying true to your vocal technique.

Voice 3 for Teens: Duets and Harmonies (Ages 12-18)
Harmonize together! This class breaks down the process of harmonizing with another vocalist. Learn solfege, blending, character relationships and creating basic chords within a duet or trio!

Voice 4 for Teens: Choral (Ages 12-18)
Pre-requisite: 1 voice class
Choral music has existed for centuries and is one of the best ways to enhance your ear training and knowledge of music. In this class learn to sing more advanced choral pieces ranging from Baroque choral pieces to Broadway show-stoppers to American Spirituals.

Voice 5 for Teens: Sight-Singing (Ages 12-18)

Love singing different styles of music? Then this is the class for you! Offered multiple times throughout the year, the focus of this class will change from session to session. We will offer specific forms of vocal music, such as: Jazz, Blues, Worship, Country, Folk, International, Project Chorale Prep and more! Class will focus on one specific style.

Voice 10 for Teens: Project Chorale (Ages 12-18)
Pre-requisite: 2 voice classes and audition
Set the bar higher and strengthen your vocal technique with this 3 session vocal class. The goal of PC is to elevate the quality of vocal training in CYT by creating a community of dedicated students and teachers who want to use their talents to glorify God through the art form of various choral styles. You will continue challenging music from each session while adding in more pieces in preparation for performances, including their collaborative performance with Project Dance at the end of the year.

Dance 1 for Kids (Ages 8-12)
5, 6, 7, 8 It''s time to get up and dance! Step up to all the basic techniques that will prepare you to take on any form of dance. Beyond the standard ballet positions you''ll learn how to chasse, channe, pirouette, kick, leap, and more. Whether you want to learn Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Tap, Hip Hop, or Ballroom, this class will give you the foundation you’ll need to succeed.

Alright, dancers it''s time to leap through Broadway''s most popular forms of dance: Jazz and Tap. Kick up your knowledge of dance as you master more intermediate steps all the while strengthening your foundation in basic technique. Learn how to do drags, pencil turns, fan kicks, toe touches, paradiddles, riffs, pull backs, maxi-fords, and much, much more. This class will have a major focus on style as we will explore the differences between classic and contemporary and everything in between. Jazz and Tap shoes are required.

Explore two of the most popular forms of dance: Hip Hop and Modern. You will be stretched and challenged in this class as we continue to expand our knowledge and ability. Your creativity through dance will help us focus on technique, strength, control, flexibility, musicality, and style of Modern dance followed by funky fresh steps from the latest Hip Hop fads. We will spend a lot of time both on the ground and in the air…so get ready to let go! Gym shoes are required.

Pre-requisite: 2 dance classes & audition
For seasoned students, Project Dance is a 3 session progressive dance journey. Students will receive intense training in technique and raise the bar on their dance performance. The goal of PD is to elevate the quality of dance training in CYT by creating a community of dedicated students and teachers who want to use their talents to glorify God through the art form of various dance styles. Students are encouraged to attend a summer Project Dance Camp offering workshops and a dance concert.

Drama 1 for Kids (Ages 8-12)
Become a character from head to toe. Explore the building blocks of acting through creative movement, story enactment, theater games, imagination journeys and more! You''ll be able to use your whole body, voice & facial expressions to portray everything from a swashbuckling pirate to a oompa loompa. Create your character from scratch and perform in scenes like Chronicles of Narnia, Treasure Island, Little Princess, Alice in Wonderland and more.

Stanislavsky. Adler. Hagen. Meisner. Shurtleff. Lugering. There are many methods of acting, and each one has valuable tools and techniques for actors to incorporate. Learn what the masters have to say about journaling, emotional preparation, sense memory, repetition, the 12 guideposts, and physical properties. This class will provide a variety of applicable approaches to analyzing a script, embracing your character, preparing to go on stage, and being in the moment.

Immerse yourself in a acting from character analysis to physicality. Practice and perfect cold reading techniques and discover how to engage your creativity. Okay, actors. Let''s get real. We’ve all seen performances that gave us goose bumps and made us laugh and cry. And you want to know how do they make it look so real. This class will not only answer that question but will teach you how to evoke the same reaction. Learn the principles of basic acting from a purely personal and realistic perspective. This technique will give you the tools to break bad habits, strip yourself free of artificiality, and embrace yourself and your scene partner completely. Welcome to the world of Sanford Meisner.

Drama 9 for Teens: Shakespeare (Ages 14-18)
Pre-requisite: 1 drama class
To be, or not to be—that is the question. Come learn what it takes to be a Shakespearean actor. This class will tackle Shakespeare’s language and equip every actor to approach Shakespeare’s scripts with the proper knowledge and techniques. After laying the foundation through an intense, detailed script scoring process, we will approach Shakespeare’s language with specific acting techniques that will bring out the best in the text—and in you. Put your newfound skills to the test as we workshop monologues as well as scenes. After this class, you will never fear the great Bard again!

Drama 10 for Teens: Drama Production (Ages 12-18)
Pre-requisite: 2 drama classes & audition
Embark on an exciting acting challenge in advanced drama. Through producing an extended dramatic or comedic play, you''ll discover how to create a in-depth character, engage in environment and create exciting scenes. Every cast member will have an important role in the production as an actor, as well as opportunities to assist with props, costumes, sets, publicity and directing. Past productions include Importance of Being Earnest, The Crucible, Play On, Midsummer Nights Dream, Wait Until Dark and The Matchmaker. Improv 1 for Kids/Teens (Ages 10-14)
Create drama, humor and stories on the spot. This class will give you the basic principles of improvisation and give you the confidence to embrace everything that is thrown at you when you don''t have a script in your hands. Learn team building skills that will strengthen your ability to play with your partners on stage. In this class that solely focuses on short-form improv, you will learn how to live “in the moment and confidently say Yes! to anything.

Comedy 1 for Kids (Ages 9-12)
Whether you feel like you are a natural comedian or enjoy telling puns, embark on the rules of comedy. Come play with us as we learn what makes something funny on stage…and what doesn’t. Learn the classic bits and gags and how to execute them. Experiment with a variety of comic characters, discover your individual attributes and strengths, and create your own unique repertoire of characters within the context of various comedic monologues. This class is for the seasoned improviser who wants to take on the ultimate challenge: long-form improv. This class will test your skills and stretch your abilities as you take your short-form improv fundamentals to a whole new level. We will focus most of our time on learning how to create and perform a standard Harold long-form piece. So if you think you''re ready to tackle this unique art form, come join our advanced troupe!

Improv 4 for Teens: Improvathon (Ages 12-18)
Requirement to be eligible for Improvathon Team, Pre-req: 2 improv classes
An amazing opportunity for improvisors! This class will prepare students to audition for the CYT Chicago improv team, rehearsing Spring 2010 and competing in San Diego in Summer 2010. Focus on creating characters, group think, playing off your teammates, incorporating activities, emotions and accepting offers while learning the official games for Improvathon 2010. Comedy 1 for Teens (Ages 12-18)
It''s all in the timing: come fine tune your comedy skills in this energetic, invigorating class. We will strongly emphasize the give and take between scene partners on stage in this class. We will learn new partner and group exercises that will keep you sharp and quick on your feet, as well as strengthen your on-stage relationships. We will experiment with bits and gags within the context of two and three-person scenes and learn how to make them…well, funny. And we will focus on pace, tempo, and timing in order to nail those moments just right. It''s time to get serious about comedy!

Comedy 2 for Teens: Stage and Screen (Ages 14-18)
Pre-requisite: 2 classes of improv and/or comedy
This class is not for the faint at heart. We''re going to get down to the nitty-gritty details of comedy and learn how to play up our individual strengths and better our areas of weakness. We will explore different periods and styles of comedy for both the stage and screen. We will explore such styles as Musical Theatre Comedy, Shakespearean Comedy, Commedia Dell''Arte, Contemporary Comedy, Sit-Com, and Naked Gun. Specialty 503: Professional & College Audition Preparation for Teens (Ages 16-18)
Are you thinking about making theatre your major in college? Do you plan on pursuing acting professionally? If you answered yes to either or both of this questions, then this class is essential for you. You will learn how to select songs and monologues that are right for you and what kind of material to avoid for college and professional auditions. By the end of this class, you should have four solid audition pieces either four contrasting monologues (contemporary, classical, comedic, and dramatic) or two contrasting monologues and two contrasting songs. We will workshop all of your pieces in class and evaluate and critique one another''s work. We will also discuss proper audition etiquette, what to expect at the URTA auditions, and how to prepare for a college or professional interview.

Have you ever wanted to learn to walk on your hands, do a toe-touch, or a partner lift? Take your skills beyond singing and dancing in this Theater Gymnastics class. You will learn how to safely stretch, strengthen and condition your body, basic gymnastic skills, basic partner lifts, and group lifts/mounts.*

Work towards creating a dynamic story using foley, live and recorded sound effects, production music, ambiance and walla effects. Specialty 906 for Teens: Human Video (Ages 12-18)
Combine music, theater, modern dance, drama, pantomime, props to creative a living, dynamic story. Similar to a live music video, students will be challenged to use their body to interpret the story in the music and create exciting stage pictures. This class will explore facial expressions, spatial relationships, meaningful gestures, interpretive dance, modern dance, artistic movements, classic mime, pantomime, and at times also use American Sign Language. This is an eclectic mix of theater performed without boundaries geared toward presenting a story in a very powerful way.


Specialty 907 for Kids/Teens: Film Making (Ages 8-18)
Let''s make a movie! That''s just what you''ll learn to do in this class aimed at future directors and filmmakers. Discover how to tell a story through film from beginning to end in this fun, challenging, and creative class. From filming actors to editing with music, this class will take you through the entire process of making a simple movie so that by the end, you will have shot and edited your very own project!
