Fall 2017 Classes

REGISTRATION IS OPEN THROUGH THE SECOND WEEK OF CLASS.

CYT offers three class sessions (Fall, Winter, and Spring) per school year for students age 6-18. Each session includes ten weekly classes of drama, dance, voice, and other theater specialties. For the final week of class, students display a portion of what they have learned by participating in a high-energy Showcase for family and friends. Students develop their skills by learning from experienced teachers, performers, and technicians while having fun and making lifelong friends! Showcase for the Fall 2017 session will be 7 pm, Tuesday, November 14th at the Kroc Center Theater. This is a free performance.

Enrolled students, age 8-18, also are eligible to audition for this session's CYT Broadway-style musical. Students may also serve as ushers, work on a backstage crew, assist with props, makeup, costumes, or special activities (raffles and souvenir table). Families who become part of the cast will incur some additional expenses such as a production fee ($100/student, $65/each additional student) and, if needed, makeup, shoes, tights, etc. Many of the show fees are optional and can be purchased online.

REFUND POLICY - REFUNDS ARE SUBJECT TO A $25 PROCESSING FEE, AND A PRO-RATED FEE FOR CLASSES ATTENDED. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER THE SECOND WEEK OF CLASS OR TO STUDENTS WHO AUDITION FOR THE SESSION'S SHOW.

Scholarship assistance is available. (Applications must be received before the Early Bird deadline, August 25, 2017.)

Tuesday Classes

Our Gang (Little Annie's Orphans)
(ages 6-7)

Come learn the fundamentals of musical theater with a focus on our fall show, the Broadway smash hit, Annie. This high-energy class will include songs, dance, drama games, skits, and other theater fun. It is designed to build self-confidence and stimulate imagination. All "Little Girls" and Boys ages 6-7 are invited!
* Please note that Our Gang students are NOT eligible to audition for this session's production.


Core Dance  *
(ages 8-18)
Learn the basic techniques of one of the most exciting elements of theater: DANCE! Both jazz and tap are used throughout many musicals in American theater. They are exciting styles which require discipline and practice. Class teaches beginning forms of movement, including tap and jazz.

Core Drama  *
(ages 8-18)
This class will cover acting fundamentals, staging, movement and character interpretation. We will also go over audition basics, terminology, theater etiquette, and an overview of backstage functions. Perfect for anyone just starting out in theater!

Harmonies and A Capella
(ages 12-18)
Core Voice
This class will have fun working with intermediate students on small group pieces (duets/trios) as well as larger choral pieces. You will learn how to sing parts & harmonies in different styles including barbershop and modern a capella; how to recognize and pick out parts; hold your part and blend with others to make a beautiful group performance. Learn skills that will make you a valuable cast or ensemble member, while preparing a seasonal performance for Showcase!"

Matilda the Musical
(ages 10-13)

Do you love all aspects of musical theater? Come join the class that is for the student who loves to sing, dance, and tell a story through music. Improve your singing, dancing, and acting skills by taking it to the next level. This course will explore the art of storytelling through songs from the Broadway musical Matilda. Capture your audience’s attention from the moment you walk onstage. Learn how to create stage presence whether you are the lead or an ensemble member. Every student will get the opportunity to shine in a musical number and perform in showcase!

Come learn to share your vocal abilities with an audience. Class teaches the basic ways to sound good and look good while you’re performing great music. Students will be taught the basics of good singing technique, receive training in how to use their voices correctly, and how to have a confident audition.

Advanced Acting for TV
(ages 8-18)
All Cores Complete
In this advanced acting class learn to hone your acting skills to suit the various types of on-camera acting, from commercials to TV to film. Using scripts from current projects for Film and TV learn the basics of shining in front of a camera. Get ready for your close-up!

Act Like Your Dancing
(ages 8-18)
Core Drama & Core Dance
Learn to dance while developing and staying in character. In this exciting class you will explore the use of fundamental musical theater dance in combination with your acting skills.

All Things Annie!
(ages 12-18)
All Cores Complete
This class will focus on some of Broadway's most famous characters named Annie! Students will learn, rehearse and work on scenes from Annie, Annie Get Your Gun, Anne of Avonlee and Oklahoma (Annie Ado). Come sharpen your acting, dancing and singing skills and have fun!

Core Classes provide the basic understanding of many different facets of musical theater that is required to take on more challenging Specialty Classes also offered each session. These classes are noted by their prerequesites.
